Your Questions, Answered
-
If you're concerned about your child's speech, feeding, or oral development, it's worth scheduling an evaluation. While every child develops at their own pace, ongoing difficulty being understood, frustration communicating, picky eating, or oral function challenges may indicate that additional support could help. An evaluation can provide answers, reassurance, and a clear plan for next steps.
-
Many families come to Dr. Jenn after trying therapy elsewhere without seeing the progress they hoped for. Rather than simply continuing the same approach, she begins by identifying the why behind your child's challenges through a comprehensive evaluation. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience treating complex speech, feeding, and oral function disorders, she develops an individualized treatment plan designed specifically for your child.
-
Every evaluation is tailored to your child's unique needs. Dr. Jenn begins by listening to your concerns, reviewing your child's history, and observing their speech, feeding, oral motor skills, and overall communication. She'll explain what she's seeing, answer your questions, and provide personalized recommendations for therapy, additional referrals if needed, and the next steps that make the most sense for your family.
-
PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) is a specialized, evidence-based approach to treating speech disorders that uses tactile cues to help children develop more accurate and coordinated speech movements. As a PROMPT Certified Instructor, Dr. Jenn has advanced training in this approach and uses it when it's the most appropriate fit for your child's needs.
-
It depends on the underlying cause. Mouth breathing, tongue thrust, and other oral function challenges often involve multiple factors, which is why a comprehensive evaluation is an important first step. Dr. Jenn can help determine whether myofunctional therapy is appropriate and works closely with orthodontists, ENTs, dentists, and other specialists when collaborative care is needed.
-
Every child is different. Some children meet their goals in just a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. The length of therapy depends on your child's diagnosis, goals, consistency of practice, and response to treatment. During your evaluation, Dr. Jenn will discuss what she recommends and what you can realistically expect moving forward.
